Older work...

This is my final piece from my foundation degree, I have kind of grown to appreciate it more these days, I felt it was a successful piece. This is an instillation view of the work, I created a black room that permitted no light and used the light box that the work laid upon as the only illumination. The purpose of the room was for the work to be encountered in a very personal way by the viewer, by them alone. The work was created around the idea of closeness with my friends in different environments and the escapism within this scenario. The images depicted this closeness and the work could only be viewed as a whole after it had been read, clarifying the imagery. I adorned delicate papers with this imagery to represent the fragility of friendship and relationships and the lightbox was a mechanism to show how easily the paper could be torn. The images almost became translucent; I used stitch to represent the bond I felt within the friendships I talk about.
